Senator Alloway Supports Senate Republican Government Reform Efforts

HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) voiced his support for a 10-bill package of reform measures introduced today to increase transparency and accountability in state government at a Capitol press conference today.

"State government operates best when it is open, honest and accountable to the citizens it serves," said Alloway, who has signed on as a cosponsor on all 10 bills. "The Senate supported most of these measures during the last session, and I am hopeful that the House of Representatives and the Governor's office will work with us to see these measures signed into law."

The reform package includes:

  • Senate Bill 101, legislation to increase penalties for violating the Sunshine Law,
  • Senate Bill 102, legislation to reform the procurement of consulting contracts,
  • Senate Bill 103, legislation to prohibit bonuses for Commonwealth employees,
  • Senate Bill 104, legislation to increase accountability related to the use of state-owned vehicles,
  • Senate Bill 105, legislation to create a searchable online budget database,
  • Senate Bill 106, a constitutional amendment to eliminate sine die legislative sessions, also known as 'lame duck' sessions,
  • Senate Bill 107, legislation to post government salary information online,
  • Senate Bill 108, legislation to change the process for filling a vacancy in the office of lieutenant governor,
  • Senate Bill 109, the Taxpayer-Funded Advertising Transparency Act, and
  • Senate Bill 110, legislation to improve access to, and expand the information contained in, state plane logs.

Nine of the 10 bills in this package passed the Senate last session with strong bipartisan support, Alloway said.
