Alloway Supports Call for Crackdown on Welfare Fraud
HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) today announced his support
for greater vigilance to prevent cases of welfare fraud.
Alloway echoed the concerns expressed earlier this week by Rep. Will Tallman
(R-Hanover), who pointed out the need for strict oversight in citing a recent
case of fraud involving an Adams County woman illegally receiving more than
$17,000 in food stamps.
"Welfare programs are one of the largest expenses in the budget every year,
and we must take great care to ensure that these funds are being used to help
eligible families in need," Alloway said. "With more families applying for
assistance due to the recession, it has never been more important to crack down
on individuals who abuse the system."
House Republicans have announced a package of legislation to prevent fraud
and waste in the state’s welfare programs.
"Representative Tallman and House Republicans are right on target by focusing
on this kind of abuse, and I support their efforts wholeheartedly," Alloway
said.
