Alloway Supports Legislation to Penalize Legislative, Executive Branch for Late BudgetsHARRISBURG - Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) announced today that he is a co-sponsor of legislation that would penalize the legislative and executive branches of government for failing to pass a budget on time. "The month-long budget impasse has demonstrated the flaws in the current system, and we must take action to ensure that state workers and those who rely on state services are not held hostage for political gain ever again," Alloway said. "This proposal would ensure that any party who tries to subvert the budget process in the future will pay the price." The proposal would establish deadlines for revenue estimates to be reported to the General Assembly and deadlines for each chamber to pass a balanced budget. The bill would also establish penalties for the General Assembly and the executive branch for failing to meet these requirements, including forfeiture of pay. | |
