Alloway Urges District Residents to Take Precautions Against H1N1, Seasonal Flu

HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) is urging local residents to take precautions to prevent the spread of the seasonal flu and the H1N1 virus.

"A number of local residents have expressed concerns to me about the new flu strain," Alloway said. "It is important for everyone to learn as much as they can about H1N1 and take precautions to avoid contracting or spreading the disease."

The state Department of Health recently launched a new website to help Pennsylvanians prepare for the H1N1 and seasonal flu strains. The site, www.h1n1inpa.com, offers helpful tips to help state residents avoid contracting or spreading the flu.

According to the site, the H1N1 virus is a new strain of flu to which people have no natural immunity. The site includes information on the new vaccine that is available for H1N1, including when and where the vaccine will be available.

To stay healthy, the state Department of Health recommends covering all coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve, keeping hands away from the face, frequent hand-washing and staying home when sick.
