Alloway Announces Washington Township Boulevard Bridge Grant
HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) announced a
$500,000 state grant today that will complete and pay for the construction of
the Washington Township Boulevard Bridge.
The bridge will ultimately connect Country Club Road with
North Welty Road and PA Route 16 and Old Forge Road. The project will connect
the residential properties north of Waynesboro with the proposed new commercial
developments along the Boulevard near the Lowe’s and Wal-Mart retail outlets.
Alloway said that the project would help to reduce traffic
congestion and support economic growth in the region.
"The Washington Township Boulevard project is one of the
most important transportation initiatives in the greater Waynesboro area, and I
am very thankful that we were able to secure funding for this vital local
priority," Alloway said. "By improving access and reducing congestion in and
around our local communities, we can help to promote new economic development
projects in the region."
Alloway added that the commercial areas could provide
employment to as many as 1,000 people and act as a catalyst to restart economic
development in the greater Waynesboro area.
The grant was awarded by the state Department of Community
and Economic Development as part of the Economic Growth and Development
Assistance Program. |
