Senate Approves Advertising Transparency Legislation

HARRISBURG – The Senate approved legislation that would require all advertising that is funded by the state to include the words "Paid for with Pennsylvania Taxpayer Dollars," according to Sen. Richard Alloway II (R-33).

Senate Bill 109, the Taxpayer-Funded Advertising Transparency Act, would require any advertising by the Executive, Legislative or Judicial branch of state government to reveal if taxpayer dollars are spent. The bill would also apply to all state agencies and any other entity that uses taxpayer dollars for advertising.

"Pennsylvanians deserve to know how their tax dollars are being spent," said Alloway, who cosponsored the bill. "This legislation is an important reform to ensure greater transparency and accountability in state government, and it will serve as a valuable tool in determining the value of state-funded advertising."

Senate Bill 109 now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
