Alloway Votes to Designate April as Child Abuse Prevention Month
HARRISBURG – The Senate gave unanimous approval to a
resolution designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, according to
Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33).
Senate Resolution 278, which Alloway cosponsored, urges all
Pennsylvanians to do their part in preventing child abuse. Across the country,
more than one million children are documented as victims of child abuse and at
least 1,500 die annually from the abuse. Children ages four and younger account
for 81 percent of the fatalities.
"Child abuse is one of the most troubling crimes in our
society, and we must do more to prevent these horrific actions," Alloway said.
"I am pleased that my colleagues joined me in supporting this measure to bring
greater awareness to this problem."
Suspected child abuse in Pennsylvania can be reported
around-the-clock to ChildLine at 1-800-932-0313.
