Conococheague Creek Cleanup Event Scheduled for May 15
HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) is urging
district residents to take part in a creek cleanup project on May 15 as part of
the Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania.
The cleanup project, planned in conjunction with the
Conococheague Watershed Alliance (CWA), will take place in and along the
Conococheague Creek, in Chambersburg, from Commerce Street to the Nitterhouse
Soccer Park from 9 a.m. until noon. Registration for participants will begin at
8 a.m.
"This event will help improve our local environment and
serve as a valuable teaching tool for young people to learn the value of
volunteerism and environmental stewardship," Alloway said. "I am hopeful that
district residents will choose to participate in this event on Saturday to do
their part to protect the environment."
Alloway urged participants to bring work clothes, gloves,
hip waders and other protective equipment to prevent injury. Participants with
kayaks or canoes may float the stream picking up trash from the deeper waters
that can't be reached by participants with hip waders.
Any individual or group who is interested in volunteering
for the event can contact Melissa Knepper in Senator Alloway's office at
mknepper@pasen.gov , (717) 787-4651, or
CWA President Jennifer Bratthauar or any member of the organization at
conococheaguewa@gmail.com.
