Senator Alloway Cosponsors Resolution Recognizing YMCA Appreciation MonthHARRISBURG – Sen. Richard Alloway II (R-33) cosponsored a resolution that was passed earlier this month that designates May as YMCA Appreciation Month in Pennsylvania. "YMCAs support stronger, healthier communities throughout the Commonwealth by offering a wide variety of social services and programs," Alloway said. "I was proud to join my colleagues in honoring the important role that YMCAs play in promoting responsibility and personal growth in our young people." YMCAs are collectively the largest nonprofit organization in Pennsylvania, and the Keystone State is home to more YMCAs than any other state. More than 25,000 state residents contribute to YMCAs as volunteer coaches, mentors and instructors. YMCAs raised more than $55 million for scholarships, subsidies and other services to help promote access to higher education in 2008. The organizations also support programs to prevent drug and alcohol use and gang membership and promote education, civic involvement and personal responsibility. | |
