Senate Approves Elk Conservation Tag LegislationHARRISBURG – The Senate approved legislation on Monday to establish an Elk Conservation Tag program to benefit wildlife conservation organizations, according to Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33). Senate Bill 1026, which Alloway cosponsored, would permit the Pennsylvania Game Commission to transfer one bull elk tag by April 30 of each year to be auctioned off by a wildlife conservation organization. The proceeds from the auction would be used to support wildlife conservation efforts. "We are fortunate to have a number of dedicated organizations working to preserve our wildlife resources in Pennsylvania," said Alloway, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee. "This new elk tag program will support the ongoing efforts to protect these animals and preserve their habitat." Senate Bill 1026 would set up an Elk Tag Conservation Committee to establish criteria for evaluating proposals submitted by organizations who wish to be considered for the program. Organizations would be allowed to submit a proposal to receive the tag. No organization would be permitted to receive the tag two years in a row unless there are no other proposals submitted that year. Senate Bill 1026 will now go to the House of Representatives for consideration. | |
