Senate Approves Legislation to Monitor State Vehicle Use

HARRISBURG – The Senate approved legislation today that would monitor state vehicle use, according to Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33), who cosponsored the measure.

Senate Bill 104 would amend the Fiscal Code to create a statewide vehicle registry. Each state and judicial agency would be required to post and maintain a list of employees who are assigned a state vehicle on its website.

"We must examine every avenue for cost savings to the taxpayer, and the state vehicle fleet is a large expense for the Commonwealth," Alloway said. "This legislation would ensure that we can monitor state vehicle use to identify ways to reduce costs."

Senate Bill 104 is part of a broad package of government reforms introduced by Senate Republicans to provide greater accountability and transparency in state government. The legislation will now go to the House of Representatives for consideration.
