Alloway Urges District Residents to Help Prevent Spread of Aquatic Invasive Species

HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) is urging district residents to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species by taking proper precautions before fishing trips.

"Some aquatic species can live for months in water until they are introduced into a new environment, so it is vital for all fishing enthusiasts to take the proper precautions to avoid unwittingly introducing a potentially harmful species," Alloway said. "Invasive species can cause a great deal of damage to an environment and create health risks for other fish, plants and animals."

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission encourages individuals and families to inspect, drain, clean and dry all clothing and fishing equipment before each trip, including inspecting all boats, trailers, gear, boots, vests, lures, reels and tackle boxes.
