Special Message Regarding Castle Doctrine

By Senator Richard Alloway II

A constituent of mine recently contacted me about some of the debate that has been taking place on blog forums concerning Pennsylvania Castle Doctrine legislation. As the "Castle Doctrine" bill sponsor in the Senate for the last two sessions, and as a Life Member of the NRA, I felt it necessary to respond to the months of discussion, and at times criticism, revolving around last year's legislative debate on "Castle Doctrine" legislation.

Unfortunately much of the dialogue that I have reviewed on various forums is based on misinformation and does not accurately reflect the actual chain of events surrounding this legislation.

I recommend those who are uncertain of the facts to read this entirely factual piece posted on Snow Flakes in Hell about the evolution of Castle Doctrine in last year's legislative session. You can read this informative Q&A here: https://www.snowflakesinhell.com/2010/11/18/our-interview-with-john-hohenwarter/

This year, much of the criticism again seems to focus on the NRA - however the truth is that the NRA, specifically through their involvement/leadership, has been a key element to the progression of House bill 40 and Senate Bill 273 this legislative session.

Finally, I would like to thank the statewide sportsmen's groups for all their support on this important legislative effort. I am confident that the final outcome will be well worth the effort and right of self defense will be restored for law abiding citizens of the Commonwealth. Please, we need to all stick together on this. I am committed to getting it done!
