Alloway Urges Hunters to Donate Venison for Local Food BanksHARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) is urging local hunters to participate in a venison donation program to help Pennsylvanians in need. The Hunters Sharing the Harvest program allows hunters to take their deer to any participating deer processor to donate a portion of the venison to local food banks. Last year, the program collected enough venison to deliver nearly 200,000 meals to food banks, churches, and social service organizations throughout the Commonwealth. "This program has been extremely successful in recent years thanks to the generosity of our state's outdoorsmen," Alloway said. "I urge all local hunters to consider donating a portion of their venison this year to help Pennsylvanians in need." Participating processors in the 33rd Senatorial District include: Country Foods, 6032 Buttermilk Road in Waynesboro, Stitely's Meat Processing, 3647 Haulman Road in Chambersburg, and Butcher Block Meat and Seafood, 3055 Biglerville Road in Biglerville. When hunters drop the deer off to be processed, they must tell the processor how many pounds of venison they would like to donate. The processors handle the venison under sanitary conditions and provide cold storage until the meat is moved to a local food bank.
