Alloway Issues Statement Regarding PA Supreme Court Redistricting DecisionHARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) issued the following statement today regarding the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's ruling to remand the legislative redistricting plan to the Legislative Reapportionment Commission: "I am deeply disappointed with the Supreme Court's decision to reject the proposed maps for state House and Senate districts so late in the process. The decision creates a great deal of uncertainty for potential candidates for office, and I am disturbed that the Court has provided little guidance for the General Assembly regarding this issue. "If the 2001 maps are used for the upcoming 2012 elections, many state residents will not receive the equal representation in the General Assembly that they are guaranteed by the state and federal Constitutions. If candidates for elected office are forced to wait for the re-drawn maps to be approved, they may only have a few days to circulate and file petitions to appear on the ballot. This could create a dubious situation for potential candidates, preventing them from even knowing which municipalities they would represent if they choose to run. I am confident that the Legislative Reapportionment Commission will work expeditiously to address the Supreme Court's concerns, but I am very disappointed that the Court was so short-sighted in creating this quagmire."
